Polish star Robert Lewandowski has become the “master of his own decision” regarding his future with his club Barcelona, after participating today, Saturday, against Las Palmas in the 25th round of La Liga
“Lewa” achieved today the required participation rate of 55% to ensure the completion of the fourth year of his contract with Barcelona
When he moved from Bayern Munich to Barcelona in the summer of 2022, Lewandowski signed for 4 years, but the contract stipulated that the Catalan club could cancel that fourth year if he did not participate in at least 45 minutes in a minimum of 55% of the matches in the third year of the contract
As of today, Lewandowski’s contract expires on June 30, 2026
According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, “In the best case scenario for Barcelona, Hansi Flick’s team will play 61 matches this season: 38 in the league, 15 in the Champions League, 6 in the King’s Cup and 2 in the Spanish Super Cup”
She continued: “This means that Lewandowski needed to play in at least 34 matches for 45 minutes or more. Lewa achieved this number of matches by starting the match against Las Palmas today”
She explained: “Of the 37 matches that Barcelona have played so far this season, the Pole has only played less than 45 minutes in four matches: against Betis and Valencia in the Copa del Rey and against Mallorca and Valencia also in La Liga”
She continued: “Apart from the contractual details, the truth is that Barcelona did not want to wait until Lewandowski reached this number to confirm that they would rely on him for next season”
She explained: “With 32 goals in 34 matches, at a rate of almost one goal per match, the veteran striker has raised his level after a more modest second year”
As for Barcelona, they know very well that the player is happy with them and wants to continue wearing the Catalan team’s shirt, and aspires to win more championships, most notably the Champions League
