German coach Hansi Flick suffered his second defeat in the Champions League, as Barcelona lost to Monaco at the Stade Louis II. After the match, Flick expressed his deep frustration with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, confronting him directly in the dressing room over his dangerous passes that led to the sending off of team-mate Eric Garcia.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta also criticised Ter Stegen, calling him the worst player on the team and holding him largely responsible for the defeat. Laporta discussed with Flick his delay in substituting Robert Lewandowski, suggesting that his poor performance was a burden on the team.
Flick acknowledged the need to improve the situation, and urged Laporta to seek strong signings to strengthen the attacking and defensive lines, warning that Barcelona could face a trophyless season. Despite the defeat, Flick praised young player Marc Casado for his excellent efforts under difficult circumstances.
