Barcelona have announced their second major pre-season signing, in the form of Andreas Christensen
The Chelsea defender’s arrival at the Camp Nou has been an open secret for some time now, with the player signing personal terms with the club a few months ago, shortly after the decision to terminate his contract at Stamford Bridge
Christensen signed a four-year contract at Barcelona, with a release clause of €500m. He will present as a Barcelona player on Thursday at Tito Vilanova’s training ground

The announcement of Christensen’s arrival comes just hours after Barcelona arranged another free transfer to Frank Kessie. The Ivorian also signed a four-year contract at the Camp Nou and the two will play a vital role in the club’s success in the years to come
Christensen comes on the heels of a prolific stint at Chelsea which saw him lift the UEFA Champions League last year. He has the FA Cup and the Europa League to his name too, with Xavi hoping he can bring a winning mentality to Barcelona
In addition to a winning percentage, the Danish international offers an abundance of experience at the highest level in football. He had made 160 competitive appearances for Chelsea and continued his trade in the Bundesliga for a brief spell with Borussia Moenchengladbach
Tactically, the former Gladbach star has been praised for his technical ability and positional awareness. He should give grace to Ronald Araujo’s determination in the center of Barcelona’s defense next season
Christensen’s arrival at the club should also lead to the exit of Samuel Umtiti, who is said to be close to a move to Rennes
