The Spanish Football League, La Liga, through French lawyer Juan Branco, will file a lawsuit before the French judiciary to prevent the ratification of Kylian Mbappe’s new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, considering it “illegal” because it violates the rules of play.Fair play in the European Union
If the French judge does not make a decision in favor of La Liga, action will be requested from the European Commission and a case in the EU Court of Justice is not ruled out
Lawyer Juan Branco, representative of La Liga, said in a press conference organized today in a Paris hotel, “We are looking for a new decision like the Bosman decision (law), which freed the market (1995). What we want now is for the market to be regulated and for the (financial) rules to be like the (Spanish) League, it’s very strict”
That call includes canceling the contract of Kylian Mbappe in Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Lionel Messi, and last summer’s deals such as Sergio Ramos and Donnarumma, according to the French newspaper, “Le Parisien”
The League called on French government officials to act and league presidents to take a closer look at the capital’s club spending
France striker Mbappe signed a new 3-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain last May, rejecting Real Madrid’s courtship last year
The terms of the contract have not been officially revealed, but it is widely reported that Mbappe received a staggering signing fee as well as extraordinary wages, figures of €100 million to sign and €50 million per season have been suggested
Branco stressed that he is confident that this process will finally flourish in European examples, considering that a club such as Paris Saint-Germain, owned by a Qatari sovereign wealth fund for 11 years, is violating the rules of free competition that govern the single market of the European Union
