Real Madrid goalkeeper Andrey Lunin revealed the behind-the-scenes of his heroic save of two penalty kicks against Manchester City, in their difficult climb to the Champions League semi-finals
Real tied in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League with City at Etihad Stadium with a goal for each team, and the tie between them continued after the first leg ended 3-3, which ended in two extra halves and a penalty shoot-out, in which the visitors won 4-3, thanks to Lunin saving two penalty kicks. By Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic
Lunin told the Movistar Plus+ network after the match: “I needed to risk one of the kicks and stay in the middle and I chose Bernardo Silva’s kick, and thank God I succeeded in blocking it”
He saved two penalty kicks from Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic. This is clearly not the result of chance. Behind him is the great work of Luis Llobes, the goalkeeping coach, and there is also the assistant Kepa Arrizabalaga
He added: “It was a very difficult match outside our stadium in a tournament like the Champions League. We suffered a lot, but I am grateful to the team for the fight they did. I cannot imagine myself running for 120 minutes like my teammates did today”
